Inter-process Communication

Inter-process communication is facility provided by an operating system via which cooperating process can communicate with each other. Inter process communication facility allows the process to coo-prate and synchronize. Their actions without sharing the some address space. Inter process communication is particularly useful is a distributed environment, where the communication processes may reside on different computer connected with network. eg. is a chart program use on the WWW.

There are several different method of establishing inter process communication are:

  • Massage passing
  • Shared memory
  • Signals
  • Shared file
  • Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)
  • Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
  • Sockets
